Want to know the number one question most potential clients ask me when redesigning a website? If you are reading this article, you have probably already guessed it. That’s right. How long does it take to build a website?
The answer I give to most people is the same… It depends on several things.

A simple website of 10 to 15 pages should take about 4 to 6 weeks. This time frame assumes that it is a custom design. If someone tells you they can create a website for you in a week, it’s not a custom design.
How long does it take to create a website?
For a site of 25 to 40 pages, it can take between 6 weeks and 6 months. It depends. Depends on what? Well, now you have to read the whole article to find out.
So, without further ado, before you hire a web designer, here are the five factors that determine the time it takes to create a website?
The speed with which content can be delivered is by far the biggest obstacle to launching a website. This is usually the biggest hurdle because the content is provided by the customer. However, the latter is often too busy with the day-to-day activities of his or her company to devote the time needed to organize and prepare the content. This is a problem we have been working to solve in our web design process.

The time required to create a new website depends largely on the scope of the project. Large websites take more time than small ones. In general, the more pages a website has, the bigger the project and the longer it takes. This is because each additional page requires QA (quality assurance), mobile design, graphics, markup for SEO, etc.
Unique page designs
Sometimes size doesn’t always matter. For example, creating a 15-page website can take a long time if each page is different from the next. Not only is the total number of pages important, but also the total number of unique page designs. A single page design has a different layout and design than all other pages on the site. If you look at most websites, you will see that the homepage has a unique design, but often the inner pages all look the same. Sites with all interior pages looking different are more complex and usually more expensive (see our website price guide). But they also take longer to design and develop, which has an impact on how quickly the site can be launched.
Functionality of the website construction
Now that you have a better idea of the factors that go into creating a website, you may be wondering what you can do to make your project go as fast as possible. After all, time is one of the hidden costs of pricing your website.
When it comes to quickly creating a new website, the most important thing to do is to focus on the site map. The site map is the architecture of all the pages of the site and how they are linked together. By clearly defining the site map, the number of pages, which pages will be uniquely designed and how they will relate to each other, you will be able to properly define the scope of your website project and ensure that it is delivered quickly.
