5 Steps to create your social network strategy

Social networking is an ever-changing world that continues to evolve along with technology. When it comes to developing a social media marketing strategy, it’s important to have a clear strategy to guide you and help you navigate such an evolving landscape.

So how do you create a social media strategy that will help you keep up with not only today’s landscape but tomorrow’s as well?

There are 5 essential steps to a solid social media strategy: define your goals, choose platforms (e.g. Instagram, TikTok, Facebook), identify your audience, connect with them through engaging content, and continually look for opportunities to optimize and improve.

Let’s dive deep into each step:

Step 1: Define your goals

First of all, it is important to define your goals and objectives. What are you trying to accomplish? What do you hope to achieve through social networking? This step is especially crucial if your company is new or has been active on social networks for less than a year; in these cases, the best way to start is to define what makes sense at this stage.

For example, if your goal is simply to increase engagement within your existing audience, it may make more sense to not only focus on building an engaged community, but also to focus on building an engaged community where you already have one – Facebook or Twitter rather than Instagram or Snapchat. Such a goal might require focusing more on content creation – posting photos every day – and less on launching new platforms until you’ve built your existing ones.

The type of content you publish should reflect your brand identity and audience, but don’t overthink the types of posts needed for each platform. You may want to include a mix of images or videos with text-only posts, or maybe an occasional image post is all you need!

Finally, make sure you have both short- and long-term goals in mind, as well as goals for growing your personal brand versus your business, so you can create an appropriate plan for each part of your online presence.

Step 2: Choose your platforms

Once you’ve found the right platform(s), it’s time to get started.

However, there are a few things to note before you get started. First of all, if you are going to use multiple platforms, do it right! Choosing one or two platforms related to your business and industry is a good place to start, but don’t stop there.

The success of these social media strategies will depend largely on how often you post on each platform. If you choose too many platforms at once (or if they are all used for different purposes), it could be difficult for customers who follow your account(s) on multiple networks to keep up with everything that is going on in your world.

Having a consistent social media strategy means choosing accounts that create a cohesive representation of your business, which often means starting with one platform at a time.

Step 3: Identify your audience

This step is important because it helps you define the objective of your presence on social networks. Your audience will dictate how you post, what content you share and how you interact with them.

Know who they are: This step can be tricky: your audience is made up of people from all over the world, with different backgrounds and interests! However, most companies have a general idea of who their target market is and where they live (and if a company doesn’t know this information, it’s time to do some research!).
Know why they are there: The more specific your target market is, the easier it will be for them to find your brand online. For example, if I search for a new pair of shoes online and type “women’s sneakers” into the Google search bar, I will get many results – but if I add “black high-top shoes” to my query, only one website will come up, namely Nike’s women’s sneaker section!

Step 4: Connect with your audience

The fourth step is to connect with your audience. Social media should be used to build relationships and grow your brand, not just to make sales or get quick downloads. It’s about engaging, not spamming people with content they aren’t interested in or don’t want to see.

To be successful, you need to make sure you respond to comments on posts, engage with users who engage with you, build trust and credibility by being authentic and consistent in your message, and that all campaigns have clear goals so that the work you do can be measured against those goals.

Step 5: Optimize and adjust, then repeat.

Ultimately, your strategy will be the product of the input from this process. It is not enough to set up a social network strategy, it must be refined and adjusted according to the needs. You should continue to use this method on an ongoing basis to see if your efforts are working and to make any necessary adjustments.

  • Make sure you are using the right platforms to achieve your goals.
Make sure you are using the right content for your goals.
Make sure you are using the right language for your goals.
Make sure you use the right hashtags based on your goals.

By following these 5 steps, you can create a social media strategy that will help you connect with your audience and grow your online presence. But remember, it will take time and perseverance to get results. The more you optimize and adapt your plan based on what works for you, the better the results of this process will be.
